A college education was very important to Gloria's culture, but she was challenged by a Bipolar disorder and ADD.  Unable to take medication for ADD, she struggled to stay focused to read textbooks to get through college.  She talks about looking normal to professors and overcoming her fear of talking to them.

Gloria's Suggestions

  1. Understand the capabilities and backgrounds of students.
  2. Be sensitive that students with a psychological disability may feel stigmatized.
  3. Understand that some students with disabilities require more time to complete readings and assignments.
  4. Provide "clean" copy of class materials or use materials that are already in electronic format.
  5. Speak more clearly and slowly.
